Congress in Review!

 Natalie Campbell · August 27th, 2012 · NT

Hey Fellow Territorial CSMLS’ers! I was happy to see such a strong Northern representation at the 75th Celebrations at LABCON 2012 in Gatineau, QC! Wow, what a venue eh? We can boast almost 10% of our membership in attendance! Now….I want to know what your favourite part of congress was!! For me, I had two favourite parts!! The first was the plenary address by Lionel Laroche on working in cross cultural environments! Great information and presented in such an engaging, interesting fashion! My second was the gala dinner and watching the Past President interviews! What an amazing group of people….people that I will be so proud to have my name stand beside as a past president some day! Which leads me to my next challenge! Check out the CSMLS website! The volunteer section is now live! Have YOU ever considered volunteering for the CSMLS….exam panel, nominating committee or even the Board of Directors? Keep your eyes on this site for upcoming opportunities!!!!

And…..We have a winner!!!!!

A big congratulations to Nancy Frechette from the Yukon Territory!!  She is the lucky winner of the free registration contest to LABCON2012!!! Looking forward to seeing you there Nancy!  So glad you will be able to be a part of the 75th celebrations in Quebec!

To all my other fellow Northerners…..T-shirts are on the way!! They look spectacular! Don’t forget to send me pictures of all of you wearing them!

We are on the countdown to National Med Lab Week, April 22 – 28! I have been in touch with most of you regarding your party plans! It will be a fun week across the Territory! Again, don’t forget to send your pictures!! And if you haven’t already had a chance to do so, make sure you check out the “Our Focus is You” video. Remember, for every 500 shares between now and April 15th, CSMLS will purchase a 30 second spot on national television to air the commercial. Let’s get some national air time!!

Looking so forward to seeing all your celebrations!

NWT / Yukon / Nunavut CONTEST EXTENDED UNTIL FEBRUARY 29th!

Natalie Campbell · January 23rd, 2012 · NT, NU, YT

Hey Everyone!

Happy 2012 and Congratulations on 75 years!  Be proud of your profession always but particularly now!  Tell everyone why laboratory technology is a spectacular profession!

Respond to my blog…..tell me why you picked the laboratory profession and your favourite part of  your career as a MLT or MLA!  I picked Medical Laboratory Technology because I was looking for a science-based career that wasn’t teaching and wasn’t nursing!  It turned out to be a great choice and little did I know how many doors it would open for me!  My favourite part of the career….. Can I only pick one?  I love the contact I had with patients.  I love feeling like I made a difference even if it was to only bring a smile to someone’s face.  I love the variety of being a general duty technologist.  And I love the foundation that the laboratory profession has provided me for advancing my career in management.

ENTER FOR YOUR CHANCE TO WIN A PAID REGISTRATION TO LABCON2012!!  Maximize your Professional Development funding with this opportunity to have your conference registration paid.  Remember – send your entries to nataliec@csmls.org by FEBRUARY 29th, 2012!  THE CONTEST HAS BEEN EXTENDED!  I’d love to meet you in Gatineau!

Just a quick update…. The shirts are done and by all reports, are very nice!  Due to some shipping hiccups, I will be picking them up in March and will have them delivered to your sites in time for the National Med Lab week parties!  I will be contacting all the organizations about your plans very soon!

A Contest and a Challenge for you, Territorial CSMLS Members!

Natalie Campbell · December 19th, 2011 · NT, NU, YT

Hi Everyone!
One more quick message before the Holidays begin.  I am starting to see the shirt orders roll in…..Thanks to all my assistants I have helping me across the Territories.  You’re the ones making this happen!!  I will be in touch with you in January to arrange for delivery to your site.

Before signing off for the Christmas season, I thought I would issue one Contest and one Challenge to the CSMLS members of the North…..

First…..the Contest!!

Win yourself a paid registration to LABCON2012 in Gatineau, Quebec. I would like to hear from you about the challenges, the successes and the future of Medical Laboratory Science in the North.  Documents should be approximately 800 – 1000 words in length and double-spaced.  Please submit documents via email to nataliec@csmls.orgDeadline for all contest submissions is January 31, 2012.  Your document should be identified with your name, contact information and CSMLS membership number. The documents will be judged through an anonymous process using an out of province Medical Laboratory Technologist who has significant northern experience. The winning contestant will be notified by mid-February AND will have their article published to the membership through the membership e-blast!!  Can’t wait to read your submissions!  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to drop me a line at the above mentioned e-mail address.

And…. the Challenge ….

Did you see the CSMLS e-blast stating the first member from the North to register for LABCON2012 gets to carry the provincial flag? I challenge you to be that member! Not only will you get a great deal on an early-bird registration fee, you will get to proudly represent your Territory carrying the flag in the opening ceremonies of LABCON2012; our 75th anniversary celebration year!  Quite an honor!!

That’s all for now!  Happy Holidays, my Friends – we will chat in 2012!
